150,000 condoms to be distributed at Olympic Village

Some 150,000 free condoms are to be distributed at the Olympic Village in an effort to promote safe sex.

It represents a record number for the Games and comes after 100,000 were handed out in Beijing in 2008.

Seemingly this was not enough and so authorities have upped the distribution of prophylactics in the host city.

Hope Solo, who was part of the gold-winning US women's footballing team in 2008, told the Daily Star that there was a lot of sex taking place in China.

"I've seen people having sex right out in the open. On the grass, between buildings, people were getting down and dirty. Athletes are extremists," she added.

Ms Solo added she snuck a Hollywood actor back to her room and boasted that neither of them slept that night.

A London 2012 spokesman confirmed the condoms will carry a safe sex message so all competitors are reminded of their responsibilities.
