Adult film stars may have to wear condoms
Adult movie productions may have to ensure their stars wear condoms in the future if they want to obtain a filming permit.
The Los Angeles City Council has voted unanimously to support a motion that will look into the feasibility of introducing the procedures.
It is an attempt to promote safe sex into the porn industry and ensure individuals are better protected against the risk of HIV and sexually transmitted infections.
Michael Weinstein, president of the Aids Healthcare Foundation, said: "Tying condom use to adult film production permits is absolutely the responsible thing to do."
He added if the decision is ratified it will protect performers in the industry, as certain companies still do not use prophylactic devices when shooting their films.
Mr Weinstein has previously complained about Vivid Entertainment, one of the biggest distributors in the sector, as it does not insist on the mandatory use of condoms on sets.
