Bath youth club promoting condom use
A youth club in Bath is promoting the idea of safe sex among young people by handing out free condoms.
The prophylactics will be dispensed from a new vending machine at Peasedown Youth Hub, which is being installed by Bath and North East Somerset Council in October, the BBC reports.
Individuals who have discussed condom use with a school nurse or youth worker will be handed a C-card, which they can then use to withdraw the safe sex products.
The machine will also display sexual health advice, as well as agency contact details.
Liberal Democrat Nathan Hartley, cabinet member for Early Years, said: "We have a responsibility to tackle unwanted pregnancies and also sexually transmitted diseases."
The politician explained levels of chlamydia in the UK are greater than many people imagine, with around one-in-three individuals having contracted the disease.
Earlier in the month, pizza was served at the Females Condoms and International Paper Dolls Workshop hosted by the YWCA of Greater Wellington and Positive Women in New Zealand.
