Condom usage to increase among South African teenagers?

A South African doctor is determined to explain the benefits of safe sex to teenagers in the country.

Dr Kalli Spencer told the Times Live he decided to do something about the problem of unprotected sex after he realised nearly a quarter of the people he treated at Chris Hani-Baragwanath Hospital's obstetrics unit were less than 20 years old.

Individuals may need to be taught about the need for contraceptive methods such as condoms or femidoms.

"It's about going to the community and speaking to patients, to let them know the risks before we see them in the hospitals, when it's already too late," Dr Spencer observed.

If his guidance proves to be successful, there could be an increase in the number of people who buy condoms online.

One famous face who came out and backed safe sex recently is Lady Gaga.

The singer wore a condom-inspired dress on Good Morning America to highlight the issue.
