Condom use encouraged over Christmas
Revellers have been reminded about the importance of using condoms over the festive period.
Blood virus and sexual health specialist Richard McIntosh told the Tayside and Fife Courier that many people become lax about safe sex at Christmas.
He commented that alcohol can "blur the judgement" and lead to individuals failing to use contraceptives.
"Young people often do not think of themselves as at risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) - they may not realise that they are actually very common," the expert remarked.
Dr McIntosh urged individuals to protect themselves and remember that anyone can contract an STI if they do not take precautions.
The publication noted that sexual health clinics see a rise at the start of each new year in the number of people seeking treatment.
Elsewhere, the Wandsworth Guardian recently reported that a new website entitled swish.nhs.uk has been unveiled to help people in south-west London locate their nearest free health centre.
