Coventry residents can get free HIV testing

Individuals in Coventry who have not been using condoms will have the opportunity to get tested for HIV for free.

The event is being held at the Terrence Higgins Trust's (THT's) Coventry centre on May 20th and it is looking to reduce high levels of undiagnosed HIV in the area.

Ewan McPherson, Health Promotion co-ordinator for THT in Coventry, said: "With more people living with HIV in the Midlands than ever before and a quarter of them undiagnosed, it's vitally important we encourage more people to test."

He added with advancements in medicine, individuals can live a long time even after they have been diagnosed.

For those who want to decrease their chances of catching a sexually transmitted infection, then using a condom is one option they may consider.

The news comes after Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general, observed the international community has to come together in order to address the issue of HIV.
