Female condom project to be relaunched in Ghana
A project promoting greater female condom use in Ghana is to be relaunched.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) revealed it will work in collaboration with development partners to increase public awareness about the contraceptive method, Bernama.com reports.
A special event to mark the relaunch is to be held at Mandela Park in Ashaiman, the Greater Accra Region, tomorrow (Wednesday October 31st) and will carry the message Female Condom for Double Protection.
Dr Yaa Osei Asante, family planning programme officer at the GHS, said other female-initiated contraception methods - such as microbicides - could be introduced if the promotion of female condoms proves successful.
"Despite the current lull in activity with regard to female condom promotion, interest and nominal support for it at policy level are high," Dr Asante added.
She said this is apparent due to the inclusion of the products in service provider guidelines and reproductive health and HIV/Aids policy frameworks.
