Females 'satisfied with sex in later life'

Women may wish to continue carrying condoms around with them despite getting older, as new research has suggested pleasure between the sheets is unlikely to wane as females age.

Indeed, the study, which has been published in the American Journal of Medicine, revealed sexual satisfaction in ladies can increase with time, with frequent arousal and orgasm continuing into old age.

Investigators from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System - which is located in La Jolla Village - found that 67 per cent of sexually active respondents achieve orgasm either most of the time or always, with the youngest and oldest of those questioned reporting the highest frequency of such climax.

Elizabeth Barrett-Connor of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, said: "These results suggest that women engage in sexual activity for multiple reasons, which may include affirmation or sustenance of a relationship."
