Festival goers 'must pack condoms'

Individuals attending music festivals this summer would be wise to take condoms along to the event to help protect themselves against sexually transmitted infections.

Speaking as many revellers make their way to Glastonbury festival this weekend, which runs from June 24th to 26th, to see the likes of U2, Coldplay and Beyonce, Dr Mark Salter - a consultant in communicable disease control from the Health Protection Agency's Health Protection Unit - has come up with a number of top tips to help people stay safe.

The expert advised individuals partaking in sexual behaviour at such large gatherings to always use the prophylactic, as more than 200,000 cases of chlamydia, syphilis, herpes, gonorrhoea and genital warts were reported among the 15-24 age group in the UK in 2010.

He added: "People generally end up being unwell due to the combination of too much alcohol, drugs, sex and less than ideal hygiene."
