Innovative ways to raise awareness around the need to promote good sexual health are being witnessed all the time, with one health clinic in Minnesota taking the unusual step of offering free pizza for those who get themselves STI-tested.

Delicious pizza and the peace of mind that comes from knowing you are STI-free, where do we sign up?

The Semcac Clinic in Winona, Minnesota has held a unique event entitled 'Pee for Pizza', in which people were encouraged to head on down to receive a complimentary slice of pizza in exchange for a free STI test.

Designed to help spread the message that STI testing is important for all those who are sexually active, the family planning clinic has received funding for the project from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Raising awareness around sexual health is extremely important here in the UK as well, especially given the growing number of cases of STIs that are being recorded across the country.

In 2016 alone, there was a four per cent rise in the number of diagnoses for common STIs, with data from Public Health England revealing an increased number of cases of gonorrhoea, chlamydia and genital warts, among others.

Regular STI checks and understanding the importance of safer sexual practices, including the use of condoms, is therefore essential for all individuals aiming to safeguard their sexual health. Free pizza is also a nice touch.
