Free self-testing chlamydia kits to be handed out

People looking to buy condoms online may be interested to hear that health bosses in East Sussex are offering free sexual health testing kits to individuals under 25.

The Hastings and St Leonards Observer reports how the self-testing packs are being handed out at chemists as part of a new campaign to reduce the spread of chlamydia.

It is hoped that by providing people with the opportunity to assess whether they have the sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the privacy of their own homes, more people will seek treatment if necessary.

The publication notes that following the festive season there is a rise in the number of cases of the condition, which often has no symptoms.

However, if the infection is left untreated, it can cause long-term problems such as infertility.

NHS Online states that chlamydia is the most commonly diagnosed STI and is most widespread among those aged under-25.
