Free sexual health check offered

People in Nottingham may well begin buying condoms more frequently after participating in a free sexual health check offered by the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) to be held every weekday from now on.

The confidential appointments will see individuals tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as Chlamydia, HIV and gonorrhoea in a bid to reduce high levels of undiagnosed conditions in the city and its surrounding areas.

Responding to the fact that in 2008 around 3,350 people were living with HIV in the east Midlands - 25 per cent of whom were unaware of this - centre manager for THT in Nottingham Mick Mason said people can be put off having sexual health checks.

Times have changed, he continued, stating: "Our clinic is modern, friendly and relaxed and testing is now quick and easy".

It comes after the organisation promoted a quick service for HIV examinations, with results returned within 20 minutes.
