'Gimp Man of Essex' raises eyebrows
Most of us like to be a bit adventurous in the bedroom, but generally that is the sort of thing we keep to ourselves. You wouldn't walk around the streets brandishing a sex toy or a glow in the dark condom, after all! However, one intrepid man is aiming to raise awareness - and a bit of money for charity - by doing exactly that.
'The Gimp Man of Essex' is, as the name might suggest, a man in a gimp suit who spends his time wandering around a variety of Essex towns. Why is he doing this? A very good question. Luckily, he was able to provide some answers in an interview with the BBC, in which he said one of his aims was to "start a debate" among members of the public.
"I'm adult enough to realise people look at the negatives in everything," he told the BBC. "But people are a lot more open minded nowadays. And at the end of the day, you can walk along the beach and see a lot more than I'm exposing!"
To be fair, what he's exposing isn't a lot - the gimp suit covers the entirety of his body except his nose and mouth. But he does raise an interesting point about what is and isn't acceptable in public. Furthermore, the Gimp Man has been raising money for charity during his strolls around Essex.
Every time someone takes a photo of the Gimp Man, he donates £1 to his chosen charity: Colchester Mind. At the time of writing, he has raised £375 and has set up a JustGiving page that has been given over £750 in donations.
Of course, like any hero the Gimp Man has a secret identity. He told the BBC that his wife and children have no idea that this is how he spends his time, as he does not practice his interesting hobby during school holidays or on weekends.
On his Facebook page, the Gimp Man says he is "out to cheer people up from the drudgery of everyday life". With any luck, he will also help people get over some of their sexual taboos.
