LA porn stars 'will have to wear condoms'

Porn stars working in Los Angeles (LA) will have to wear condoms when shooting sex scenes in the city after its mayor signed a new law preventing actors from engaging in unsafe sex.

Antonio Villaraigosa put pen to paper on the ruling, which will come into effect in the next six weeks, but the issue has caused much debate among those for and against the requirement.

While some believe the move will protect performers from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, others are worried it could harm the future of the industry.

Michael Weinstein, president of Aids Healthcare Foundation - which has been operating since 1987 - said: "The city of Los Angeles has done the right thing. They've done the right thing for the performers."

There are fears, however, that filmmakers may move away from the city - often thought of as the centre of the adult movie world - in order to bypass the law.
