Love to Shop vouchers issued in return for HPV jabs
A new sexual health scheme from Birmingham East and North primary care trust - which may provide offer condom and other contraceptive advice - is offering teenage girls Love to Shop vouchers if they agree to have a cervical cancer jab, which protects against the HPV virus.
The coupons can be redeemed in stores such as Argos, HMV and Debenhams and are available for those aged between 16 and 18 years old, with participants receiving £45 worth of tokens if they have all three of the injections, the Daily Mail reports.
Adviser Mark Brighton noted that this could encourage "a better attendance rate and therefore a better vaccination rate".
However, critics of the initiative have voiced concerns that this move will persuade young girls to start having sex earlier than they might otherwise.
The benefits of such examinations could be highlighted in a new campaign from sexual health clinic Brook which, according to Creative Boom, will see merchandise, posters and leaflets distributed throughout schools in the UK.
