The Los Angeles City Council has moved a step closer to making the use of condoms on set in adult films mandatory.

This is because officials have asked the state legislature to pass a rule that will make the use of the prophylactic on set a necessity to receiving a permit to shoot, the Daily News reports.

Councilman Paul Koretz was pleased with the outcome of the vote that was taken - which finished 10-0 in favour of the move - adding: "This is something I have sought for a long time."

Aids Healthcare Foundation assistant-general counsel Brian Chase noted there has been no "common sense" from the industry over the issue.

"It [could] go a long way in preventing sexually transmitted diseases," the specialist remarked.

President of the organisation Michael Weinstein recently said that every male taking part in the porn industry should be made to use a condom in order to protect himself and his partner.
