New year 'perfect time for STI test'

People who have had sex without condoms are being encouraged to get their sexual health checked ahead of Valentine's Day.

In an interview with This is Local London, Doctor Gill McCarthy explained that many sexually transmitted infections can go unnoticed unless a test is carried out.

She described how it is important those who had unprotected sex over the festive period get "a full check up".

"With it being the new year, it's a perfect time to get a clean bill of health. Many people don't even know they are infected, as most sexual infections are symptomless," Dr McCarthy stated.

Individuals were advised that getting a complete assessment will involve testing for gonorrhoea, HIV, chlamydia and syphilis, the results of which can be found out within three days.

Elsewhere, the Hastings and St Leonards Observer recently reported that health bosses in East Sussex were handing out free chlamydia self-testing kits to people under 25.
