A politician in New Zealand got a bit of a shock yesterday (Thursday, February 4th) when he was hit in the face by a sex toy while taking part in a television interview.

Steven Joyce, New Zealand's economic development minister, was faced with a dildo to the chin after a protester threw it at him while he was on camera. The protester yelled: "that's for raping our sovereignty" as she hurled the sex toy at Mr Joyce.

The cry is possibly in reference to the hugely controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, which was recently signed in Wellington.

It seemed that she knew she'd be in trouble over the incident as the protester said "I know, I know" as she was led away by a security team. She was also smiling and laughing as the police took her away shortly afterwards.

Mr Joyce seemed to take the whole incident rather well and didn't receive any injuries from the dildo. He said that getting hit by the sex toy was a bit of a shock and that things like this didn't happen every day.

Reporters asked him how he felt about the incident, to which he replied: "oh, it's fine, a little bit surprised but we actually... thought it was a little bit humorous at the end of it all... New experiences in politics every day. It's the privilege of serving."

He also later tweeted "someone send the gif [of the video] to John Oliver [the US comedian] so we can get it over with." The comedian has previously made jokes about the New Zealand Labour Party.

There has been an increase in the use of sex toys as protests in recent months, with teens in the US also using them to protest lax gun laws in certain areas of the country. It seems that dildos are fast becoming the go-to weapon of choice for peaceful protests.
