The popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey has been incredible, causing couples all over the world to dive into the world of BDSM. Most news outlets have had to feature something about the book series, especially considering the popularity of the newly released film. However, apparently this has not been to everybody's taste.

The ITV programme This Morning recently aired a segment entitled 'Bondage for Beginners', broadcast on February 3rd, in which the hosts went over the basics of the sexual activity. The hosts looked at several sex toys and other pieces of bondage equipment alongside 'sexpert' Annabelle Knight.

Hosts Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley treated their viewers to demonstrations of spanking paddles and feather spankers, bondage rope, a nipple clamp, a silk eye mask, a crystal wand, and a leash and collar. These were shown off by two models, both of whom were scantily clad!

It could probably have been predicted that the show, which was broadcast at 10:30am, would attract complaints. However, the amount might surprise some people: This Morning attracted a total of 120 complaints to the UK media watchdog Ofcom. Many of these were due to what was seen as sexual content broadcast before the watershed of 9:00pm.

An ITV spokesperson said: "This Morning is a lifestyle programme that covers a diverse range of human interest topics. The programme has dealt with advice on sexual matters many times in the past, and a suitable announcement was given at the start. Many of our items spark debate and we welcome feedback from our viewers about our content."

While one side of the debate is that This Morning should not have shown off bondage gear before 9:00pm, the other point of view is that what was shown was hardly explicit. Furthermore, Mr Schofield did warn viewers early on in the programme that they would be discussing bondage later, declaring that it would be "in good taste".

That said, the host did go on to say "sorry, I got distracted” when looking at the sparsely dressed models, so perhaps his mind was on other things!
