People 'need to wear condoms and practice safe sex'
People still need to make sure they wear condoms when having sex, one politician observed.
Chris Smith, the openly gay former Labour MP, noted while advancements have been made in treatments for HIV, the "virus hasn't gone away", the Mirror reports.
He was diagnosed with the disease in 1987 and he noted it has become a much more "controllable issue" than it was when it first claimed news headlines around the world.
However, individuals should still make sure they take part in safe sex - which means buying condoms - to reduce the risk of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
The news provider observed there are approximately 100,000 people living in the UK with the condition, while it is thought to have caused 18,000 deaths.
It comes after the AIDS Healthcare Foundation slammed an adult movie production company for not ensuring its performers wear condoms when making films.
