Philadelphians to use app to find condoms?

A new iPhone app will help individuals in Philadelphia to locate the best place for to find condoms.

According to All Things Digital, it is hoped the initiative will aid officials in their quest to control the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Philadelphia Department of Health programme manager Melinda Salmon noted it became obvious to them that technology would have to be used in order to try and tackle the issue of STIs.

She added the scheme will ensure that "anyone that needs a condom can get one".

The company founder behind the iCondom app Morgane Danielou said she initially thought it would be popular in Europe, but realised there was also a market for it in the US.

A similar drive was also been launched in New York earlier in 2011, which is intended to reduce STIs rates by making sure residents always have access to condoms.
