Pope gives Pleasuremax condoms the thumbs-up

In a new book, Light Of The World: The Pope, The Church, The Sign of the Times, Benedict XVI appears to have voiced his support of buying condoms in certain circumstances, saying they can be used to stop the spread of HIV and Aids.

With regards to prostitutes wearing gay condoms and other products, the pontiff said it was the "first step towards moralisation", adding that while the church does not look at prophylactics as a moral solution, they are "in the intention of reducing the risk of infection, a first step in a movement toward a different way, a more human way, of living sexuality".

However, he went on to say that sex as an expression of love is being reduced by the "fixation" on condoms.

A spokesman for sexual health charity the Terrence Higgins Trust welcomed the move, stating it could save lives in regions of the world where condom use has previously been discouraged.
