School kids to be given condoms for free

Schoolchildren in Massachusetts are to be given condoms to encourage them to take part in safe sex.

The scheme is being tried out at Wayland High School, after nurse Amy Schoeff noted she was worried by the high number of students who have failed to take the proper precautions, reports.

"Teenagers are at risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs)," said principal Pat Tutwiler.

It is hoped that if individuals have easy access to condoms then they may be more likely to use the prophylactic devices.

"We will instruct the students in the correct usage of condoms and in making healthy and wise decisions around this important issue," Ms Schoeff observed.

Before they are given the condoms however, they will first have to speak to someone in the health office, who will explain the dangers of STIs.

It comes after pupils at the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University were told about the importance of practicing safe sex.
