Stock up on condoms, people urged

One writer has urged people to "stock up on condoms" ahead of the festive season to prevent any nasty surprises in the new year.

In an article for the Daily Mirror, Miriam Stoppard encouraged individuals to be prepared and practise safe sex.

"There's something about Christmas/new year that seems to bring with it unwritten permission to throw responsibility out of the window," she commented.

However, people were warned that Marie Stopes International reports a ten per cent rise in the number of women having abortions between January and March.

She suggested carrying condoms to prevent having unprotected sex and potentially contracting a sexually transmitted infection.

Ms Stoppard also reminded women to ensure a change in their routine does not mean they forget to take their contraceptive pill.

Marie Stopes International has a number of healthcare service centres across the UK and sees more than 100,000 men and women each year.
