A youth health clinic in Stockholm, Sweden is helping men find the right size condoms by handing out special measuring tapes. The idea is that by measuring their penises, young men will be able to select the right condom, better protecting themselves and their partners from STIs and unwanted pregnancy.

According to the clinic, which helps men and women aged up to 23 maintain their sexual health, the initiative is hoping to address the falling use of condoms throughout Sweden. Helping young men to understand the importance of condom use and why you need the right size could help reduce STI transmissions in the country.

The tapes being given out by the clinic measures diameter rather than length to ensure condoms don't slip off and cover the correct area. They are being given free of charge, along with instructions on how to read them correctly.

Eddie Sandstrom, a male nurse at the clinic, said in a podcast on its website: “A common reason for a condom slipping off or breaking during sex is that you’ve bought the wrong size. You have to measure the circumference of the penis when erect, not the length. On our measuring tape you get the measurement in millimetres and a few recommendations for condom types that are suitable,” reports the Guardian.

The declining use of condoms in Sweden has resulted in an increase in Gonorrhea cases in the country, as well as the number of people being diagnosed with chlamydia remaining much the same. This is despite several awareness campaigns being run across the country.

It is hoped that this most recent initiative will help more young men see the importance of using condoms. Several men asked for a measuring tape before the product was officially launched, suggesting that it could be a big hit.
