Teenagers urged to plan their Christmas contraceptive needs

People in the West Midlands have been urged to ensure they stock up on condoms this Christmas so they are not left short.

Sandwell Primary Care Trust advised local individuals to "think ahead" about their contraceptive needs and make sure they are prepared.

Sarah New, senior joint commissioning manager for Teenage Pregnancy and Adolescent Health in Sandwell, said: "Traditionally, Christmas and New Year is a key time when young people are at risk of having unprotected sex and … getting a sexually transmitted infection or becoming pregnant."

She suggested individuals drink sensibly and avoid taking chances with their sexual health.

Youngsters were advised that there are a number of clinics in the area that will be open during the festive season and they should not be embarrassed to seek help or information.
