'Use condoms' to survive in the wild

Be prepared is the motto of all good boy scouts, but it's unlikely that Robert Baden-Powell and his Akelas had condoms in mind when they dreamed up those two words of wisdom.

However, Patrick McGlinchey, survival expert, would no doubt disagree, explaining to the Sun that such contraceptives can in fact prove very useful when out and about in the great outdoors.

"A clear Durex filled with water can be used to start a fire - in the wild you'll use anything to survive," he remarked, stating however that a glass bottle can also come in handy if its base is polished, as it can be utilised to focus sunlight.

But, of course, this is not the only application that can be found for extra large condoms.

According to Kent Online, a UK artist recently decided to create a piece of modern artwork by filling 2,000 prophylactics with liquid plaster.
